You can find out what's playing on our Homepage or check out our Full Programme section, including all of our upcoming Special events and Festivals.
We also have hi-vis posters hung up and pink A6 programmes available in the cinema, with the listings for each week.

You are also able to sign up for our weekly email newsletter, available to our Rio Members. (Don't worry, our cheapest membership tier is free to sign up!)

Be sure to follow our social media accounts for frequent updates too.

How far in advance do you release your programme, and how often?

  4. The amount on the voucher will show up above the button. If you click it, this amount will be subtracted from your purchase cost.

When does my Gift Card, Voucher, Complimentary Ticket or Credit in my Rio Account expire.

What Community events and clubs do you run?

We host a range of community events. These include:
  • Parent & Baby Cinema Club, a weekly Tuesday morning matinee screening for new parents and baby film buffs (under the age of one) to enjoy the latest cinema releases in a relaxed and dimly lit atmosphere. We offer an exclusive coffee and cake deal, and have space for buggy parking. Please note: anyone attending without a baby may be turned away.
  • Classic Matinee, a monthly social screening with a discounted ticket rate of £2.50 for all over 60s. This screening is an afternoon matinee, taking place one per month, always on a Wednesday at 2.30pm. Films range from newer movies to timeless classics, and feature an intermission midway through the film. Not to mention, we offer free tea or coffee, cake and biscuits to all attendees.
  • Pink Palace, a regularly-occurring award-winning informal lo-fi queer film club and safe space, which takes space in our basement bar. The films are often introduced and the audience is encouraged to engage with queer film history, and to stick around for a chat afterwards.
  • School Screenings are available to schools and colleges as a hire package with a discounted community rate. These showings are early morning matinees that take place during term time. Normally, schools like to screen something relevant to what their modules are currently covering. Screenings in Spanish French and other languages (with English subtitles) are a great tool for engaging students in languages. We also cater to more "fun" movies around the Christmas and summer holidays.

When is the next Parent & Baby Cinema Club screening?

Parent & Baby screenings take place on Tuesdays mornings at 11.30am and are every week, unless otherwise specified. During the school holidays we show family matinees, which may impact the schedule of P&B.

Our next P&B screenings can be found listed here - Parent & Baby Club.

When is the next Classic Matinee screening?

Classic Matinee screenings take place on the middle Wednesday, of each month (normally being the second or third full week of the month). Our Classic Matinees always start at 2.30pm.

Our next Classic Matinee screenings can be found listed here - Classic Matinee.

What does CC stand for?
CC stands for Closed Captions, and we use it as a symbol to show which films are subtitled, on our website and posters.
We also have other subtitled screenings, which are depicted as an ear symbol. These are HOH or Hard-of-Hearing screenings.

What does HOH stand for?
HOH stands for Hard-of-Hearing. We show hard of hearing films as regularly as we can, which is normally once a week.
All Hard-of-Hearing screenings feature subtitles. We aim to screen descriptive captions where possible, although often we are only provided with standard dialogue captions. Unfortunately we are unable to play any film as HOH showings, as often we are not supplied a subtitled version of a film or a subtitled version does not yet exist to screen.

  • For new releases, no, the advertised time is the start of the ads and trailers pre show which lasts around 20 minutes, after which the feature promptly starts. We therefore advise customers to arrive for or before the advertised time as screenings can get very busy with queues forming to access both the bar and the auditorium.
  • Special events and festival screenings generally don't have a pre-show or only a short live introduction, and will tend to start at the advertised time of the feature. We therefore urge customers to arrive early for these screenings.
What is your latecomer policy?

Latecomers are allowed in up to 45 minutes after doors open and programme begins, (which is approximately 20 minutes after the feature has started).

We host a range of community events. These include:

Parent & Baby Cinema Club
A weekly Tuesday morning matinee screening for new parents and baby film buffs (under the age of one) to enjoy the latest cinema releases in a relaxed and dimly lit atmosphere. We offer an exclusive coffee and cake deal, and have space for buggy parking. Please note: anyone attending without a baby may be turned away.

Classic Matinee
A monthly social screening with a discounted ticket rate of £2.50 for all over 60s. This screening is an afternoon matinee, taking place one per month, always on a Wednesday at 2.30pm. Films range from newer movies to timeless classics, and feature an intermission midway through the film. Not to mention, we offer free tea or coffee, cake and biscuits to all attendees.

Pink Palace Queer Cinema Club
A regularly-occurring award-winning informal lo-fi queer film club and safe space, which takes space in our basement bar. The films are often introduced and the audience is encouraged to engage with queer film history, and to stick around for a chat afterwards.

School Screenings
Available to schools and colleges as a hire package with a discounted community rate.

We also do special private school screenings on weekday mornings during term time, often showing educational, themed or requested films. If you are interested please reach out to us, through our Community contact form.

No, sadly we can't offer the cinema to screen your film or host your event for free.

Even if you guarantee a bar spend, we are unable to accommodate these sorts of requests currently. Running an independent cinema isn't cheap, but we aim to keep hire fees as competitive as possible for what we have to offer. We also offer hire discounts:

What do Stalls and Circle mean?

The Rio is one of London's few remaining 1930's cinemas (formerly known as a picture palace), complete with its original auditorium, as well as a stage.

  • Stalls: The ground floor of the Screen 1 auditorium. It can accommodate 170, including 3 spaces for those who use a wheelchair.
  • Circle: The balcony level of the Screen 1 auditorium, upstairs on the first floor. This can accommodate 214 customers, but is unfortunately not currently wheelchair accessible.
When is the upstairs Circle open?

We open the circle only for busy screenings and special events, such as our monthly Classic Matinee. However, we may have some exciting news coming soon - so watch this space!
