Leo leads a secret double life as an author or romantic fiction. However her success as the best-selling Amanda Gris hasn't brought her happiness and things are getting worse. Her often absent husband doesn't love her, her best friend is strangely distracted and her mother and sister are too busy bickering to notice that anything's wrong. Abandoned by her muse and seeking solace in the bottle since the collapse of her marriage, an unlikely rescuer sets her on a collision course to a new emotional entanglement. Marisa Paredes is a towering emotional force in this often over-looked Almodovar drama, released in 1995 it marked a departure away from the madness of his previous film Kika and a move to the more introspective personal stories that followed, do not fear however, all his trademark style is here in full, with magnificent support from regulars Rossy de Palma and Chus Lampreave.
