Join us this December for one of the most beloved Christmas classics of all time, as Frank Capra’s heartwarming 1946 masterpiece IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE returns to the Rio's big screen. When small-town banker George Bailey (James Stewart) faces a Christmas Eve crisis, a guardian angel named Clarence (Henry Travers) intervenes to show him what life would be like if he had never been born. Through this journey of self-discovery, George learns the profound impact he’s had on those around him and the true meaning of community, love, and hope. Some come on down to the Rio, and get snug and cosy with a tea or coffee, and rediscover this timeless tale of second chances and festive cheer - tis the perfect way to celebrate the season. Classic Matinee is our monthly screening, tickets are just £2.50 for those over 60 years, and we offer free tea, coffee and biscuits for all! The screenings are a fantastic opportunity to socialise and a chance to experience the full 1930's atmosphere of the Rio, as we open up the circle for the classic cinema experience, and feature an intermission halfway through the film.
