Pink Palace presents one of our favourite festive trans fables, the sublime TANGERINE.
Sin-Dee is back on the block, and she's going hard... having just been released from prison, she discovers that her no-good pimp and boyfriend Chester has been cheating on her with a piece of white trash called Dinah. With nothing but revenge on her mind, Sin-Dee spends the whole of Christmas Eve searching the city for the cheating couple. Accompanied by the less-than enthusiastic best friend Alexandra who is more focused on her singing debut.
"A reinvigorating reminder of what indie filmmaking can and should do... [a] bracingly brilliant new movie from Starlet writer-director Sean Baker"
Time Out
"Fired by zesty performances that crackle and burn with energy, Tangerine is a bittersweet affair underpinned by a winning sense of empathy and affection. Amid the rank artificiality of LA, there is real tenderness and between these characters a camaraderie that takes the harsher edges off their often bleak circumstances. Rodriguez and Taylor are a terrific double act, their on-screen chemistry providing both laugh-out-loud comedy and moving melancholia.
Tangerine is brash and brave in the way it presents its two fiery heroines as fiercely individualistic trans women trying to survive the streets of Los Angeles via any means necessary. It also features trans actors in the parts of its two principal trans characters – a sad anomaly in film."
