Acclaimed actor Romola Garai’s striking debut feature as writer-director, AMULET is a tense and moody thriller/morality tale that cleverly twists and turns as it goes from simmering tension to phantasmagorical nightmare.

After a fire destroys his squat, Tomaz, a homeless refugee and former soldier, meets a nun who offers him an opportunity to work as a live-in helper in the home of another refugee, Magda. But all is not what it seems…

Certainly much more than the sum of its visual frights, AMULET is a complex and genuinely surprising original with bold visual and sound design and some impeccable performances, not least from Imelda Staunton as the delightfully mischievous Sister Claire.
