The kids have waited long enough! This October half term, the Rio brings Hackney its first ever Children's Film Festival, with a lively and enchanting film programme curated especially for young audiences.
THE LURE OF PONIES: A SPELLBOUND ATTIC MYSTERY (advisory cert PG)
Age 8
The Lure of Ponies is a stop motion mystery set in the attic of a shuttered vintage emporium called Spellbound Treasures & Curiosities. Populated by a colourful cast of vintage dolls and toys, the attic hums with fun and camaraderie, but also with secrets and danger. Helping to keep things in order are Detective Frances Faraday, a Victorian porcelain doll, and her sidekick Midge, a sixties-era plastic doll.
Stop-motion genius Beck Underwood introduces her first feature film THE LURE OF PONIES and leads some crafts in the Rio foyer. Beck is an animator and Art Director based in New York and will be joining us at the Rio to run some craft activities and introduce her film!
Festival screening notes
This is an utterly charming and very funny film (think Wes Anderson / Jan Svankmeyer) which adults and kids will love! It’s been a huge hit with the Rio team. It may be a little creepy for some children and as it’s on the festival circuit it doesn’t have a BBFC rating yet, so we are advising suitability for ages 8+.
Crafts start at 15:00, film screening begins at 15:45
