Pink Palace: THE WASP WOMAN + Shorts

Pink Palace in conjunction with Lobotomy Room (devoted to Bad Movies for Bad People), presents The Wasp Woman (tagline: “A beautiful woman by day – a lusting queen wasp by night!”). Directed by wildly influential and prolific high potentate of low-budget cinema Roger Corman. Screening with supporting queer shorts from the era.

It begins with that perennial science fiction archetype – the mad scientist. In his crimes-against-nature experiments, Dr Eric Zinthrop has extracted an enzyme from the queen wasp’s royal jelly to create a compound that seemingly possesses miraculous rejuvenating powers, has he discovered the fountain of youth?

He finds an enthusiastic supporter in middle-aged cosmetics firm executive Janice Starlin who quickly grasps that the magical formula could not only restore her beauty but earn her millions. And despite Zinthrop’s serum having never been tested on humans, Janice volunteers to be his guinea pig. What could go wrong?

Beauty is indeed pain … especially for anyone who crosses Janice Starlin’s path!

Join us to marvel at The Wasp Woman - The Substance of its era and an exemplar of 1950s b-movie lunacy at its most irresistible!

Plus an intro chat on this b movie subgenre and the various other mad scientist human/insect monsters that inhabited cinemas like the Rio (the The Classic) in the 1960's.

Pink Palace is a super low fi highly relaxed weekly queer film club that takes place in the RIO basement bar, its a safe space so come along and catch some queer film and pop culture history, feel free to stay and chat afterwards, participation is encouraged!
