The blistered moon whispers a welcome to the eldritch abominations of a twisted internet. We’re wearing our love of all things cosmic horror on our shimmering sleeves tonight, this screening is a celebration of the myriad anomalous destinations digital culture has taken the otherworldly horrors popularised by the H.P Lovecraft’s Cthulu Mythos. We’ll be showcasing a blend of machinima, shorts, animation, and video game footage that resonate with cosmic horror through the lens and media of digital / internet culture.
Launching Dream Emulator’s season of Folk and Cosmic horror delights, the horror on display here is rooted in the fear of the other and the unknown, those things outside of oneself and of one’s perception, whether that be the shadow in the corner of your eye or the Blind Idiot God Azathoth whose dream hosts the entire known universe. Expect everything from Creepypasta adaptations to somber meditations on alienation from those who want nothing but to worship you, but cause harm in their inability to learn how.
This is the first of 2 screenings and a rave celebrating the digitally entangled legacy of Folk and Cosmic Horror, as well the ongoing marvels of folk storytelling kept alive through collaborative internet horror projects.
A zine is included with every ticket purchase, which will contain a discount code for any other events in this season.
