RIO FOREVER / NEVER EVER WITH CATEGORY H: An Evening of Public Access

HAUNTED INDIANA + ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN

The opening night of late night horror film club Category H’s Rio Forever season, Rio Forever/Rio Never Ever invites you to celebrate the Rio turning 50 at our evening of public access, HAUNTED INDIANA X ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN. Honouring all things hazy, low budget and strange, we take this as an evening to celebrate cinema, and images which lie beyond. Join us this 24th April, at 23:30, for an evening of unforgettable, rarely screened, horror.

We will begin with ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN (1958), screened from a very special edition that includes an introduction from Massachusetts based Easton Community Access show The Old Time Movie Show. ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN is the classic tale of a woman scorned. Except, this woman encounters an alien, grows in size and uses her new found height to terrorize her cheating husband, as well as anyone who tries to stand in her way. A film more often discussed in name than seen, we cannot wait to bring ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN back to the Rio’s big screen to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our cinema getting its name.

After a short break, we will return to the screen for a short film never before screened at the Rio Cinema, the ultra low-budget shot on video childhood nightmare HAUNTED INDIANA (1980). Originally conceived as part of Indiana television station, WTT4, it ran from 1981 through to the mid 90s, terrifying local children throughout. Now, HAUNTED INDIANA arrives on the Rio’s screen to terrify you! Together, we will explore Indiana’s folklore, dinners of baked beans and cursed camping trips together on a journey through to the heart of local mythology. This will include a very special video introduction from the film's director.

Rio Forever/Rio Never Ever is a season curated by Category H horror film club as part of the Rio Cinema’s Rio Forever celebrations. Running from April-November 2026, Rio Forever/Rio Never Ever consists of double bills where one film has been shown at the Rio before, while the other has never graced the cinemas silver screen. Expect unusual pairings and plenty of surprises as we honor the cinema's rich archive, and celebrate our diverse history of late night screenings.

Category H is a late night horror film club programmed by Molly Miles and Scary Claire. Keep up with their screenings on Instagram @categoryhfilms and feel free to message them there with any questions about the screening.
