A landmark concert film returns to the big screen in a stunning 2025 restored version, as SOUL TO SOUL captures a once-in-a-lifetime musical homecoming in Accra, Ghana. Filmed on March 6th 1971 in Black Star Square, the event marked the 14th anniversary of Ghana’s independence with a 14-hour celebration of soul, gospel and Afro-Latin sound.
Before performing to a crowd of 100,000, artists including Ike & Tina Turner, Wilson Pickett, The Staple Singers, Santana, Les McCann, Eddie Harris and Voices of East Harlem travel through Ghana, visiting villages and historic sites. These encounters prove deeply moving, reconnecting African-American musicians with a continent long mythologised and painfully remembered.
Pulsing with ecstatic performances, rapturous audience reactions and beautifully restored sound and picture, SOUL TO SOUL is both an electrifying concert film and a powerful cultural moment. More than music, it is a celebration of independence, identity and transatlantic connection, alive with rhythm, history and joy.
