The IWGB screens: UNION

The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) is thrilled to screen UNION (2024), an award-winning documentary film directed by Stephen Maing and Brett Story, telling the story of a group of Amazon workers embarking on an unprecedented campaign to unionize their warehouse in Staten Island, New York. Led by the charismatic but underestimated Chris Smalls, the diverse band of workers start the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) and embark on a journey against one of the largest and most powerful companies in the world.

The film will be shown in English with Spanish subtitles.

From outsourced facilities staff to gig economy workers, IWGB members are on the frontline of the fight against poverty pay and insecure work. Up against the bosses at multinational corporations like Deliveroo, Uber, and HCA, our members share a common struggle with the workers in the film. The organising depicted in UNION resonates deeply with our own work and campaigns, and we extend complete solidarity to fellow trade unionists around the world who continue to battle the exploitation and precarity of a changing labour landscape.

The event will include an introduction, a screening of the film, and a short award ceremony for IWGB members who recently participated in our political economy and organising training course. We extend the invitation to members of other unions, allies, and the general public - Hasta La Victoria Siempre!
