Pink Palace: VELVET GOLDMINE

Pink Palace presents a rare VHS screening of the glam-tastic Velvet Goldmine.

This outrageously camp spectacle bewildered audiences upon its release and quickly disappeared but it has since garnered a well deserved cult following.

The crazy plot echoes Citizen Kane and borrows heavily from the lives and lifestyles of glam rock bands and stars of the 70’s, with strong biographical references to the relationship between Iggy Pop and David Bowie, but also gleefully stealing chunks of the careers of Marc Bolan and Lou Reed and borrowing heavily from the musicals of the era like Tommy and The Boyfriend.

The resulting mix is hard to describe and has to be seen to be believed.

Toni Collette is amazing as the Angie Bowie character channelling Liza Minnelli, Ewan McGregor embraces his character with abundant energy and nudity, Eddie Izzard is fabulous as trashy music mogul, and Christian Bale smoulders as the investigative rock journalist unravelling the self-destruction of mega star Brian Slade.

Expect glitter, decadence, sex, glamour, gorgeous 70’s styling, an incredible soundtrack, over the top performances, pop celeb cameos… what more could you want? … and we are screening on glorious VHS.

Please note there are NO ads or trailers, we start on time!
