On August 6th 1945 the USA dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Thousands were killed, the Second World War finally ended and the history of the world was changed for the next fifty years.

Directed by the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, Isao Takahata. GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES is one of the studio's most profoundly beautiful, haunting works and a masterpiece of animation.

Seita and Setsuko are two young Japanese children who find themselves having to survive alone during the last days of World War II. At first, Seita and his little sister enjoy their idyllic lives in the country, but harsh reality eventually takes over as Seita begins to understand the difficulties of surviving in a world in which both food and compassion are in scarce supply.

We will be showing the original Japanese version, with English subtitles, of the film described by critic Roger Ebert as “an emotional experience so powerful that it forces a rethinking of animation. It belongs on any list of the greatest films ever made.”
