Synopsis

HERO: INSPIRED BY THE EXTRAORDINARY LIFE & TIMES OF MR. ULRIC CROSS (15) + Q&A

Trinidad & Tobago/Canada 2018. Dir. Frances-Anne Solomon. 110 mins.

Nikolai Salcedo, Joseph Marcell, Rudolph Walker.

Filmed in Trinidad, Ghana, the UK and Canada, HERO is the story of Ulric Cross whose life went from World War II heroism to post-war racism and a distinguished career as a soldier, jurist and diplomat in times of momentous political change.

In 1941, young Ulric Cross leaves Trinidad to seek his fortune. He emerges from World War II as the RAF’s most decorated West Indian. Then his life takes a dramatically different course when he joins the African independence movements sweeping the world in the 1950s and 60s.

HERO is an amazing story, beautifully told. Whilst it draws on the events of Ulric Cross' life to recreate the inner journey of a Caribbean hero, Frances-Anne Solomon's film is not just about a single life but is also the hitherto untold story of those who helped to liberate Africa from colonialism and the dynamic and transformative times in which they lived.

We are delighted to welcome director Frances-Anne Solomon and other special guests for a post-screening Q and A.
