The incredible, against-all-odds story of Tracy Edwards, who skippered the first all-female international crew in the 1989 Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race.

Tracy Edwards was a charter boats cook with a dream to shock the male yachting world – to enter and complete the most challenging of yacht races. Tracy’s ambition was opposed on all sides: her male competitors thought an all-women crew would never make it, the chauvinistic yachting press took bets on her failure, and potential sponsors rejected her, fearing they would die at sea and generate bad publicity. But Tracy refused to give up: she re-mortgaged her home and bought a second-hand boat. Then, with the support of her remarkable crew, she did indeed shock the world...

Exhilarating, suspenseful, and emotionally charged, Alex Holmes' documentary combines archive material with new interviews in which Edwards and her crew – all of them rousing storytellers - collectively narrate their experience as they contend the elements – and each other. Thirty years after the event, this is a tale of resilience and courage that is both timely and relevant - and a rewarding must-see.

The Q&A with Tracy Edwards which follows the film will be broadcast live across the UK and Ireland via satellite.
